Artist Statement
In my practice, I experiment with the materials and form of everyday life. I express myself through creating functional yet beautiful objects. Using ceramics and clay allows me to form items just in the way I imagine them. It results in unique forms that questions what is both possible and conventional.
Being adopted and growing up in a very privileged household I have a unique but growing viewpoint in society. Being an Asian woman growing up with a white family has informed my work. Turning my art into something that can tell a story and reach a community of people that I have slowly come to identify with. Furthermore, using this shift in our society as inspiration, I have started to intertwine social justice, human rights, and mental health into my artwork noting the importance of highlighting all of them. While some works are purely abstraction or solely for practical use, more recent pieces have held a balance between the two, becoming a greater expression of my identity.
As a very calculated person, I take time to plan out details before tackling each project. Each project holds a sense of light heartedness while talking about serious topics; ironic tone used to address a topic.
